Currently, the early Spring is the worst time for allergies and almost everybody I know is going crazy sniffling, not sleeping, and coughing like crazy. It's mainly the pollen from the trees and the flowers that make things so bad, but it's also the warmth that can add more allergens to the mix.
What you need to know is how you can battle the allergens in your life. The key when dealing with allergies is to control them because you are never going to fully get rid of them. Here are five ways you can better control your allergies you may never have heard of from using luxury silk bedding to eating pollen.
1. Buy Local Honey
It seems crazy, but this is one of the most effective things you can do. If you have a local health food store, you should be able to buy local bee pollen and honey. The bee pollen is the most effective of the two and it seems crazy but you actually eat the pollen that bees collect, but it helps to build up a resistance to the local pollen that is floating around in the air.
If you can't find the pollen for whatever reason, then your next best bet is the local honey. It's not going to be as effective because you can imagine the the pollen is diluted during the process but it can work, just make sure it's local.
2. Sleep On Special Linens
Stop sleeping on cotton. Bedding can be tough on your because your allergies typically are the worst at night. Certain bedding fabrics like cotton actually act as a good environment for the bigger allergens that are in bedding like dust mites, microscopic molds, fungus and even more of that nasty stuff.
What you should do is use pure silk sheet sets. Real silk is the best because it's hypoallergenic so most allergens like dust mites and molds can't survive in silk threads. You'll breath much better at night.
3. Use the Right Pillow and Comforter
Remember that your bed is a huge part of the allergy minimizing game. While it's not really feasible to get a new mattress, you can at least get a new pillow. The most important thing about getting the right pillow is making sure the inside is hypoallergenic. Temperpedic and silk floss pillows are great options.
4. Get Your Nasal Passages Moving
This is going to be really strange, but tons of people swear by it. Clean out all of your nasal passageways by using a netti pot. It feels strange when you use it, but what happens is you pour water in one side of your nose and it comes out the other. Along the way, it cleans out all parts of your nasal cavity and while it feels really strange, it works really well.
5. Resort to An Antihistamine
If you have tried all of the above and you still have dealing with serious allergy symptoms then take a trip to see you doctor. Try to use the prescription avenue as a last resort since you really don't want too much of those chemicals in your body.
